So like, scrolling down is actually scrolling up? Are cable companies really just trying to irk us at every possible opportunity?

I think it’s the intentionally irk us plan.
That’s why I got rid of cable over a year ago.
What a wonderful decision

It’s a list. My grandma’s goes the opposite way.

Do you start with the highest number at the top when you make a list?

Mine goes the logical way... but yeah, it irks me when I am in a hotel.

I download everything, and then I see the list however I want!

I haven’t had a cable box in a long time. Do you mean pressing the down button makes the items at the top come into view?
If so, you can blame phones. At some point, some idiot decided that what makes sense on a touch screen (pulling down to scroll up and pulling up to scroll down) is “natural” even when using a peripheral.
Apple sets it as the default on their laptops’ touch pads and it makes me have a minor freakout every time I use a MacBook that’s set to the default.

I mean how the channel guide is in descending order. So if I’m going from channel 40565 to channel 40566, I’d scroll down. But when the guide isn’t up and I’m just channel surfing like normal it’s reversed. To go from channel 40565 to 40566 I’d press the up button like you’d expect.
Along the same lines on BMWs to zoom in on the GPS you turn the dial counter-clockwise, which is the opposite of what is intuitive. For me at least.

I got rid of it when I left my old apartment in 2011. I’m reminded how awful it is every time I stay at my parents’ house.

Your DVR is android based? That might be why, its the same way as a phone would be. It doesn’t make any sense in a device without a touchscreen, I get all confused when people have the opposite scrolling in their laptops.

Ok, that makes sense. But then they should make channel scrolling consistent with the guide.
And channel scrolling came before the guide so IMO they should make the guide fit with how the channel scrolling goes.

That has always bothered me. Multiple cable and satellite providers I had over the years were all the same way. Got rid of that crap finally at the start of the year, and I don’t miss it.

They’re only good for one thing- providing high speed internet, and that’s only because I can’t get a fiber optic line. (oh and I get 35mbps for only 25 bucks, that helps too)

FWIW, I have the option of showing my channel list in either ascending or descending order with my Dish. Yes, hitting the UP arrow while surfing takes you to a higher numbered channel, while doing the same in the guide takes you to a lower numbered channel, but seeing a numerical list in reverse order just seems weird.

Just hold your remote backwards

I have no clue about cable companies but satellite lets you choose. I like that way better though for when I'm skipping up a whole page at a time.
